WORKSHOPS

I regularly facilitate music workshops & community singing events in Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Toronto, Ontario.

Scroll down for workshop descriptions.

I'm also available to provide sessions at your event or in your city if you have an interested group. Please email me for booking details!

This site is still migrating to a new platform, so  please visit the www.all-together-now.ca for workshop details and upcoming dates. Some descriptions are below as well!

Vocal Meditation

Spend some time tuning up and tuning in. In a Vocal Meditation session, we'll explore various relaxing vocal exercises, such as sounding, chants, and simple songs. It is a way in to the present moment using the voice. The session is intended to give you a sense of calm & grounding, along with the energetic lift that comes with vocalizing together in a group.

ALL TOGETHER NOW "CHOIR" WORKSHOP

Experience the joy of making music together! This group meets for eight weeks and sings a selection of songs (a mix of folk, traditional & modern), learning melodies and harmony parts. "Choir" is in quotation marks because we are more fun than formal. Our main goal is to sing lots, and to enjoy ourselves. No auditions, no performance, no reading music — we'll be learning by ear. Facilitated by Jane Lewis & Katherine Wheatley.

Women's Music Weekend

Look forward to a weekend of inspiration, creativity, learning and community at Women's Music Weekend! At this event, you'll experience the joy of singing, the magic of creating music, and the power of playing with a group of like-minded women. It's designed to suit you—whether you're a musical beginner or someone who's been at it for a while and wants to dig in and learn something new.

WMW happens twice a year—in May and September. Hosted by Jane Lewis, Katherine Wheatley, and guest instructors.

CIRCLE MUSIC

Let's create joyful, spontaneous music using our voices & bodies as instruments! Circle Music is a form of collaborative music making that fosters community building & connection, creative expression, and play. You will be guided to sing, move, clap, stomp, and snap as we create improvised melodies and rhythms. ALL voices are welcome, no matter what level of musical experience you have (or don't have). It's powerful, connective, and fun!

This group is mainly inspired by Música do Círculo community music in Brazil and Circle Singing (as developed by Bobby McFerrin), as well as Rhiannon's Vocal River practice.

We meet monthly(ish) in Guelph and Toronto.

IMPROV SINGING

"We have a duty towards music, namely, to invent it." — Igor Stravinsky

Where does music come from (if we're not reading a score or singing a song we already know)? I've been studying & exploring improvisational singing with Rhiannon, Bobby McFerrin, Music For People, and Música do Círculo (Brazil).

I'm thrilled to now be facilitating improv workshops, based mainly on Rhiannon's Vocal River method practice. In my groups, we explore ways to create vocal music individually and as a group. We work on inventing melody and adding harmony and syncopated parts. It involves musical creativity, deep listening, collaboration, blending voices, stretching our comfort zones, and supporting one another.

HARMONY BY EAR

I love singing in harmony! I offer workshops on how to sing harmony by ear, helping participants understand what harmony is and how to find it. Instruction is designed for relative beginners: being able to sing the scale (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do) is the only requirement. Because we work by ear, you do not need to know how to read music. Some theory will be introduced, but most importantly, we'll focus on listening and practicing.
